What's Up

Let the Funning Begin!

A group of 21 powder hounds just returned back from Steamboat Springs, our first club event for the year.  If it's any indication of times to come, we're bound for another year of great adventures and warm company with friends.  Please check out the photos.

Please note that due to extensive deforestation of e-trees, we are no longer producing our monthly electronic newsletter.  So this awesome website is where you'll find the latest news, updates, and maybe some juicy gossip.  (I hear the webmaster is quite the catch... like a bad cold.)  We'll continue to slave away to keep it as current as possible, so please check back often.  Yes, we do it all for you, because, by golly, you deserve it!

There are at least four summer trips in the works already.  Blame it on solar flares, global warming, or Tebow Time, but for some reason, people are in the mood to play!  Our winter trips have filled to record capacity, and summer trips are filling faster than two snaps and a twirl.  So please get in touch with any trip sponsor quickly to put in your name.  We want to see you woo-hooing on a trip, not boo-hooing on the sidelines.

As always, if you have any trip/ride ideas or suggestions on how to better run your club, please let us know at
webmaster@rmbb.org.  Remember, no one listens to your flapping clap trap or clapping flap trap better than the RMBB.  Hmmm, I think that should be our new club motto.

Happy Trails!

Come ring in the first weekend of summer with another fun-packed visit to the heart of Colorado.  We'll stay at the gorgeous High Creek Hideaway vacation home in Fairplay as we explore some of the many exciting adventures to be had in the South Park and Arkansas River valleys.  Late June's a great time for bikes, rafts, boots, and jeeps as trails are dry, skies warm, and rivers fast.  So bring your summer toys!  Cost of $120 covers three nights of very comfy lodging and a catered BBQ dinner at the home.  Other food and whitewater rafting costs extra.  Sorry, this trip has filled.  Please contact calbiker@live.com to get on the waiting list.
10 Aug 2012 - 12 Aug 2012
For this year's 10th Mountain Hut trip, we will revisit two of our all time favorites in terms of creature comforts and easy access to some great singletrack rides: Walter's Cabin and Chuck's Cabin, just west of Vail Pass.  These huts are 2WD-vehicle accessible, have running water, hot indoor showers, and sit along the route to the ever popular Commando Run and Two-Elk trails.  If you've never visited a hut before, they don't get much nicer than these!  Unfortunately, these are smaller huts, so spaces are limited.  The cost of $140 covers two nights' lodging and most meals.  Those staying at Chuck's need only pay $114.  Walter's Cabin has filled, but we still have a couple of spots open at Chuck's.  Please contact calbiker@live.com if you're interested.

RMBB will celebrate Independence Day with a half-week trip to Durango, CO!  The 4th falls on Wednesday this year, so we'll take advantage of the extended weekend to venture further afield.  We'll be housed in a private home and spacious condos near the Telegraph Hill trail network.  We may also explore the extensive system of trails at Phil's World on the eastern outskirts of nearby Cortez.  Other options include rafting/tubing the Animas River, riding the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge RR, hiking any of several nearby 14ers, touring local breweries, or shopping historic downtown.  The cost of this trip is just $290 per person (dbl. occ.) for reservations made by March 15th, rising to $325 thereafter.  Reservations must be accompanied by a $90 deposit, with the balance due by June 5th.  Included in this price are four nights of lodging and evening meals from Thursday to Saturday. Guests arriving in Durango by dinnertime on Wednesday may dine at one of many fine restaurants in the area before gathering to watch 4th of July fireworks.  For more information, please contact RacerX29er@gmail.com.

For more than 15 years, a trip to Moab over the Memorial Day holiday has been a very popular way to mark the start of summer.  We will stay in our favorite luxury townhomes on the golf course five miles south of town.  If you have ridden in Moab before, you will undoubtedly look forward to revisiting some of your favorite trails.  If you have never been to Moab, then you are in for a spendid treat!  The cost of the trip, including accommodations and most meals, has yet to be determined.  For now, please mark your calendars and stay tuned.  We will post more trip details as they become available.

AIDS/LifeCycle is a fully supported, 7-day bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles.  It’s a life-changing ride (not a race) through some of California’s most beautiful countryside.  AIDS/LifeCycle is co-produced by the L.A. We'll make a welcomed return visit to one of the best ski resorts in the state: Winter Park/Mary Jane.  Because of record interest in this trip, we've rented the spacious Whispering Pines vacation home AND an additional condo to serve as basecamps as we spend the days on the ski slopes, town galleries, tubing hill, or backcountry trails.  Cost of $190 will cover three nights of luxurious lodging.  Meals are extra.  Sorry, this trip has filled.  Please contact chad.c.foster@sbcglobal.net to inquire about possible waiting lists.

Here it is, Brainerds, our longest-running winter tradition: the annual backcountry ski/snowshoe trip to Brainard Cabin just north of Nederland!  For the newbies, the group backpacks in Thursday evening under the light of the full moon, spends the next day exploring the area (the hike to Blue Lake is always a popular challenge), then packs out Saturday, leaving the rest of the weekend to still do whatever you want.  Group dinner is planned for Friday night.  All other meals are on your own.  The cost of only $45 includes two nights' lodging and your share of the group meal.  Please contact chris_lwood@yahoo.com for more details or to reserve your spot.  Hurry, there're only one or two spaces left!
