What's Up

Break out the tank tops and flip flops!

After an usually dry winter and wet spring, it's finally starting to feel like summer time again.  The warm sun is back.  The birds and bees are doing their sexy thang.  Welcome to the Bike Season 2013!  This year also marks the opening of several new trails and parks in Colorado, notably the entire loop of the North Table Trail in Golden and Staunton State Park near Pine.  And, yes, they have been added to our trails library!  We're THAT good.  We'll look forward to exploring these new rides in the coming weeks.  Please join us if you're interested in hitting some brand-spanking new trails.

With the bike season upon us, our gears are spinning full speed for another fun-packed year.  Several events are now in the books, including some trailbuilding days and a few rather alcoholic day rides.  Unfortunately, all overnight, weekend trips have filled, but please contact a trip sponsor to get on the waiting list!  You might still get in.  Also, keep a sharp eye out for any newly added events which may spark your interest as our trips usually fill within weeks of opening.  So please get in touch with any trip sponsor quickly to put in your name.  We want to see you woo-hooing on a trip, not boo-hooing on the sidelines.

Please note that due to extensive derezzing of e-trees, we are no longer producing our monthly electronic newsletter.  So this awesome website is where you'll find the latest news, updates, and maybe some impeccable/incompetent humor that'll make you giggle/groan with utter delight/disgust.  We'll continue to slave away to keep it as current as possible, so please check back often.  Meanwhile, trip sponsors will periodically send out group emails with their latest updates, so please keep looking out for those.  Yes, we do it all for you, because, by golly, you deserve it!

As always, if you have any trip/ride ideas or suggestions on how to better run your club, please let us know at membership@rmbb.org.  Remember: no one listens to your flapping clap trap or clapping flap trap better than the RMBB.  Hmmm, I think that should be our new club motto.

Happy Trails!

Newly Added Events

Let's explore another one of the newer trails in the area.  We'll ride the Ringtail Trail which starts from Indian Creek and connects with other trails in Roxborough State Park.  The tread is not difficult technically, but the ride starts high then drops into Roxborough.  It's an easy, fun blast down, but now you have no choice but to climb 1,700' vertical back out.  Out-and-back measures 17.3 miles.  Ringtail is known for some great views, few crowds, and a splash of sandstone free riding.  Lunch and beers planned at Rockyard Brewery in Castle Rock afterwards.  Please contact trlguy2@gmail.com to sign on.

While North Table Mountain Park has been around and building for the last few years, North Table Trail, the park's main loop, was just recently completed last December.  This year marks the first time when bikers may ride the trail around the entire mesa.  Sounds like a great reason to go exploring this new gem in Jeffco's impressive collection of rides and take in that new trail smell.  Afterwards, we'll head over to Spot Bar and Grill for some refreshing apres-bike brews and food.  Please contact calbiker@live.com to sign on.

Sun's out, bike's out!  Let's take advantage of the good weather and hit the awesome trails at Buffalo Creek.  We'll ride out from the dirt parking lot and explore some of the great trails in the area, maybe include the newly-constructed Nice Kitty Trail.  Lunch and drinks at Zoka's Restaurant if folks are interested after the ride.  Please contact calbiker@live.com to sign on.

RMBB will field a team of volunteers to support trail stewardship at William F Hayden Park on Green Mountain.  We'll spend the morning constructing trail before breaking for lunch provided by event sponsors.  Giveaways will include "Share the Trail" bells from Jeffco Open Space and Colorado Mountain Bike Association (COMBA).  Wheat Ridge Cyclery and Yeti Cycles will be on hand with demo bikes in the afternoon; trail volunteers will receive VIP priority treatment.  Event sponsors are Lakewood Regional Parks, Jefferson County Open Space, REI, and COMBA.  Volunteer slots are limited; pre-registration is recommended.  For more information, please contact paul.brown@comba.org.
Saturday, June 22, 2013 - Sunday, June 23, 2013
Colorado Mountain Bike Association (COMBA) will begin construction of a new trail at Buffalo Creek Recreation Area (BCRA), a project expected to last three to four years.  Beginning at Little Scraggy trailhead, the new trail will run south along the eastern side of Little Scraggy Peak, link with Kelsey Campground, then circle the south and west flanks of the peak before connecting to the Colorado Trail.  It will add about nine miles of singletrack to the network and provide unprecedented access to south BCRA.  Eight build days are planned in 2013; camping is available for those staying the weekend:
    Saturday, June 22 & Sunday, June 23
    Saturday, July 27 & Sunday, July 28
    Saturday, August 17 & Sunday, August 18
    Saturday, September 14 & Sunday, September 15
RMBB riders who enjoy the trails at BCRA are encouraged to show the love by contacting paul.brown@comba.org to learn more and to volunteer.
