Despite the lowering clouds, most of the troup set out Saturday morning on the epic 20-mile ride of the Canyon Creek Loop. After humping 12 miles up the jeep road to Tomichi Pass and just 300 vertical feet shy of the mountain top, the skies opened up with pelting hail and lightning. Rather than risk continuing over the exposed tundra, the group was forced back down and ended the day cold, numb, and muddy! On Sunday the forecast was equally forbidding so some in the group opted for an easier, safer ride at Hartman Rocks near Gunnison. A few brave souls took off on the Monarch Crest Trail and continued down Tank Seven Creek back into Sargents, which made for a very long and torturous ride. Happily, the weather cleared as the day progressed, and everyone returned to camp dry -- some much more exhausted than others!
