We'll make a welcomed return visit to one of the best ski resorts in the state: Winter Park/Mary Jane.  Because of record interest in this trip, we've rented the spacious Whispering Pines vacation home AND an additional condo to serve as basecamps as we spend the days on the ski slopes, town galleries, tubing hill, or backcountry trails.  Cost of $190 will cover three nights of luxurious lodging.  Meals are extra.  Sorry, this trip has filled.  Please contact chad.c.foster@sbcglobal.net to inquire about possible waiting lists.

Here it is, Brainerds, our longest-running winter tradition: the annual backcountry ski/snowshoe trip to Brainard Cabin just north of Nederland!  For the newbies, the group backpacks in Thursday evening under the light of the full moon, spends the next day exploring the area (the hike to Blue Lake is always a popular challenge), then packs out Saturday, leaving the rest of the weekend to still do whatever you want.  Group dinner is planned for Friday night.  All other meals are on your own.  The cost of only $45 includes two nights' lodging and your share of the group meal.  Please contact chris_lwood@yahoo.com for more details or to reserve your spot.  Hurry, there're only one or two spaces left!

Come ring in the first weekend of summer with another fun-packed visit to the heart of Colorado.  We'll stay at the gorgeous High Creek Hideaway vacation home in Fairplay as we explore some of the many exciting adventures to be had in the South Park and Arkansas River valleys.  Late June's a great time for bikes, rafts, boots, and jeeps as trails are dry, skies warm, and rivers fast.  So bring your summer toys!  Cost of $120 covers three nights of very comfy lodging and a catered BBQ dinner at the home.  Other food and whitewater rafting costs extra.  Sorry, this trip has filled.  Please contact calbiker@live.com to get on the waiting list.

RMBB will celebrate Independence Day with a half-week trip to Durango, CO!  The 4th falls on Wednesday this year, so we'll take advantage of the extended weekend to venture further afield.  We'll be housed in a private home and spacious condos near the Telegraph Hill trail network.  We may also explore the extensive system of trails at Phil's World on the eastern outskirts of nearby Cortez.  Other options include rafting/tubing the Animas River, riding the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge RR, hiking any of several nearby 14ers, touring local breweries, or shopping historic downtown.  The cost of this trip is just $290 per person (dbl. occ.) for reservations made by March 15th, rising to $325 thereafter.  Reservations must be accompanied by a $90 deposit, with the balance due by June 5th.  Included in this price are four nights of lodging and evening meals from Thursday to Saturday. Guests arriving in Durango by dinnertime on Wednesday may dine at one of many fine restaurants in the area before gathering to watch 4th of July fireworks.  For more information, please contact RacerX29er@gmail.com.

For this year's 10th Mountain Hut trip, we will revisit two of our all time favorites in terms of creature comforts and easy access to some great singletrack rides: Walter's Cabin and Chuck's Cabin, just west of Vail Pass.  These huts are 2WD-vehicle accessible, have running water, hot indoor showers, and sit along the route to the ever popular Commando Run and Two-Elk trails.  If you've never visited a hut before, they don't get much nicer than these!  Unfortunately, these are smaller huts, so spaces are limited.  The cost of $140 covers two nights' lodging and most meals.  Those staying at Chuck's need only pay $114.  Walter's Cabin has filled, but we still have a couple of spots open at Chuck's.  Please contact calbiker@live.com if you're interested.

A group of 21 powder hounds made the trek to Ski Town USA to hit the fresh stash of snow in Steamboat Spring.  While the snow had been very sparse early season, a series of snowstorms came just in time to save our trip.  Most folks skied or boarded on the well covered resort mountains.  Others spent the days shoeing atop Rabbit Ears Pass or cross-country skiing at the town Nordic center.  Dinners were joyous and lively as the entire gang gathered to enjoy the company of friends not seen since last year.

After a wet winter, cool spring, and mild summer, this year's fall colors are looking to be some of the best in many, many years.  Come check out the colors on one of the premier trails for fall foliage in the state, the Colorado Trail from Kenosha Pass to Jefferson campground.  Bring your camera and, yes, vowels -- but all you'll need are oooo's and aaaaa's!

Our trip to Curt Gowdy State Park in Wyoming was a great success.  The nine fellows who took part were all enthusiastic about the excellent trail network constructed in recent years by a cadre of volunteers working on designs created by IMBA.  While some of the trails ran across open prairie or along the lake shore, most offer a challenging variety of twists and turns through ponderosa forests, with lots of granite boulders and slabs to keep the rider constantly alert and ready for instant course corrections.  Some in the group also explored the great trails at nearby Pole Mountain, which provided additional fun.

With participants hailing from Steamboat Springs, Kansas City, Los Angeles and Stockholm, the extended weekend trip to Fruita had a cosmopolitan flair. Our group of twelve included two who were riding for the first time with the gang.  Everyone had a most enjoyable experience riding the new trail network around Highline Lake State Park, the classic Mary's Loop complex, the West Rim trail in Rabbit Valley, and the Ribbon and Gunny Loop trails near Grand Junction.  Despite some hard riding, there were few mechanical issues and no one crashed.  And, for a welcomed change, the weather gods smiled on us.  Except for strong winds and some rain Friday night, conditions were ideal for camping and biking.

RMBB will mark the unofficial end of summer at Lake Pueblo State Park.  We have reserved two sites at Arkansas Point campground, giving us direct access to the South Shore trail system.  Miles of singletrack thread the mesas and arroyos south of the reservoir.  Too warm to ride?  You can hit the beaches for a cooling swim, go tubing on the Arkansas River below the dam, or grab a refreshing margarita from one of the nearby Mexican restaurants.  Our campsites are reserved for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights and are limited to six persons each; the cap on our party is 12.  The camping fee is $20 per person.
