COLORADO TRAIL: Chalk Creek to Hwy-50
Segment 14 of the CT flows mostly south, rolling 20 miles along the foothills at the base of the Collegiate Peaks, roughtly parallel to US Hwy 285. Some of the trail is relatively flat and smooth; in other places it zigzags up and down rocky slopes. Oftentimes people just ride those portions of the CT that connect the many campgrounds situated in the San Isabel National Forest (Chalk Lake, Mt. Princeton, Brown's Creek, Angel of Shavano, etc.) while they explore the ghost town of St. Elmo or ride the many trails around Monarch Pass. The elevation varies from 8360' to 9880' in the course of these 20 miles. Park along CR 290.
